The prismatic box stands on four, outwardly curved feet that are decorated with acanthus leaves. The sides are ornamented with relief scenes: an older and a younger couple dancing, a figure in students' clothes, smoking a pipe or shown with a wine jug. All scenes are enframed with a rich ornament of acanthus leaves, topped by a corniche. The detachable cover is decorated with stylised animal heads on the corners. The surface is ribbed ray-like, from the centre, where a youth stands on a plinth of a flowery rim and a jointed centre. He is dressed in medieval clothes, holding a torch in his left.
