The front board and the back board have the same, linear frame. The surface of the cover is inlaid with several different, blunt shades of brown and white leather: a flower stem in front of a hilly background. The smooth spine bears the gilt title. The endpaper is fantasy-marbled in red and gray. The woven headband is red, yellow and green, equipped with a red silk bookmark. The edges are gilt. The same flower stem motif is applied by Gottermayer on an inlay- decorated notebook, exhibited at the 1898 Christmas exhibition (see Magyar Iparművészet Vol. 2, 1899, pp.16-17, the ill. on p.64.).
