Izidor Kner published Sándor Antal’s volume of short stories entitled Jörru története (The Story of Jörru) in Gyoma in 1913. The publisher’s binding is covered in the so-called Kner cloth, and the extraordinarily distinctive and decorative pattern was designed by István Örkényi. Örkényi graduated as a textile artist from the Iparművészeti Iskola (School of Applied Arts) and primarily performed research and taught in this field, but also regularly made graphic designs for the Kner Company. The Kner cloth, which is a repeating motif comprised of a bird, three flower calyces and the KNER company name, was printed in two color combinations. In addition to the delicately elegant blue, green, and white version, there was a red and yellow combination as well. The title, author, and publisher’s name as well as the location and date of publication are seen on the paper label in the upper left-hand corner of the cover that continues around the spine.
