Plate

As the result of the appointment by art patron Count Tivadar Andrássy, József Rippl-Rónai, who lived in Paris, designed and had this complete tableware executed in the Zsolnay factory of Pécs between 1895 and 1899. It was placed in the Budapest palace of the Andrássy family that stood at the site of the present French Institute until 1908, and later was taken to the Andrássy castle of Tiszadob. (Only the tapestry above the fireplace survived World War II). The copies that remained in the factory and some of the copies given to the artist can be found in the collection of the Janus Pannonius Museum of Pécs and in the collection of the Museum of Applied Arts. In the factory book of decors of 1898 only one ornament can be found that certainly belongs to this tableware however, later further eight plate decoration patterns were recorded: thus it is likely that some plates were re-made (most likely between 1908–1913).
