Four sitting, massive cupid figures, linking into each other's arm, support the bulging, heavy body of the vase on their back. A garland of fruits, enriched with ribbons, hang down from the top rim, running along the entire body and connecting the two moulded ram heads and the two relief medal-lions that show female busts. The short neck is jointed in a curve and is decorated with a meander frieze.
This object is a typical example of the merits of artistic Minton majolicas, produced since the 1850s: detailed but dominant motifs, clear, defined colours and a glaze of excellent quality. As F. Jaenicke remarked, the Renaissance-type motifs on this piece is presented with a certain aesthetic naturalism by C. Bellense, one of the leading sculptors of the factory.
